Dhananjaya: I have a script ready to turn director; a rooted story set in the village I hail from

Nine years ago, Kannada films was introduced to a new leading man with Guruprasad’s Director’s Special. After years of struggle with a fair share of ups and downs, he found a firm foothold in Kannada cinema with Tagaru, in which he played Daali, a moniker that has since stuck, irrespective of his body of work.

When he turned producer, he named his home banner Daali Pictures, as a tribute to the love that he’s got from fans. His debut home production saw him turn lyricist too, which gave audiences an idea about his strong hold over the language and literary skills. In fact, during the promotions of the film he had said that the intention behind his production house was to be able to tell the kind of stories that he feels deeply for. And that at some point, he’d also like to turn director, at least for one film.

Recently, as part of the promotions of his second home venture, Head Bush, which is releasing in theatres on October 21, he told Film Companion South that he has a script ready, for which his good pal and music composer Vasuki Vaibhav has already got tunes ready. “Every story has a certain shelf-life and needs to be told at a certain time. The script I have is rooted in the village I hail from; it will feature the dialect of the Kannada spoken there. Discussions are on for this and I have even narrated it to Karthik Gowda and Yogi G Raj of KRG Studios, and they are also excited about the project. Right now, I am busy with my acting commitments, but I will definitely make this film soon enough,” he had said.

Head Bush, meanwhile, is a two-part film, based on the life and times of Bengaluru’s first don, MP Jayaraj. The film, in turn, is based on the book My Days In The Underworld, by Agni Sreedhar, and has a massive ensemble cast, including Loose Mada Yogi, Vasishta N Simha, Payal Rajput, Raghu Mukherjee, Sruthi Hariharan, Balu Nagendra and V Ravichandran, among others.
