Despite not having any direct releases in Telugu to date, Dhanush enjoys a huge fan-following among Telugu audiences, thanks to his diverse filmography. His first straight Telugu film, Sir a.k.a Vaathi, is set to hit screens worldwide on February 17. Produced by S Naga Vamsi under Sithara Entertainments, Sir also stars Samyuktha Menon, Samuthirakani, Sai Kumar, Hyper Aadhi and others.

Dhanush was in Hyderabad on Wednesday for the trailer launch of Sir and engaged the audiences with his speech in Telugu, Tamil and English. “Today is a special day for me; the trailer of my first Telugu film is out. I admit I don’t know Telugu. We’ve become an Indian film industry now. There are no barriers like Telugu, Tamil or Kannada cinema. We’re watching each other’s films.”

“It’s beautiful to see this exchange of cultures. Sir is set against the backdrop of a college in the border region between Telugu states and Tamil Nadu. It helped me realise how close and similar we’re as people. I’m happy Venky Atluri pulled off a story like this,” he added while thanking the film’s crew - producer S Naga Vamsi, cinematographer Yuvraj and others who worked on Sir.

The audiences were thrilled particularly when he narrated his dialogue from Velai Illa Pattadhari in Tamil. GV Prakash Kumar has scored the music for Sir and two songs from the film, Mastaaru Mastaaru and Banjara, have clicked with music buffs. Presented by Srikaru Studios, Sir also stars Thotapalli Madhu, Narra Srinivas, Pammi Sai, Shara, Aadukalam Naren, Ilavarasu, Motta Rajendran, Hareesh Peradi and Praveena.

Produced by Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas, the film has action choreography by Venkat and is edited by Navin Nooli. Avinash Kolla is the production designer. The film will lock horns with Vinaro Bhagyamu Vishnu Katha at the box office on February 17.
