Dhanush’s outstanding performance in Vetrimaran’s Asuran bagged him the Best Actor Award at the BRICS Film Festival. It was held alongside the 52nd International Film Festival of India (IFFI), which closed its curtains on Sunday.
It is interesting to note that Dhanush has won a National Award as Best Actor earlier this year for the same movie. The BRICS had films from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, and the Best Actress Award was won by Lara Boldorini for her performance in the Brazilian film On Wheels.
Vetrimaran’s Asuran is a period action drama that has received critical acclaim and high success. The movie revolves around a farmer, and his strong fight against the evils of caste discrimination. The 2019 movie also has Manju Warrier, Ken Karunas, Pasupathy, Prakash Raj, Ammu Abirami, and Balaji Sakthivel playing prominent roles.
The BRICS Best Film Awards was shared by the South African film Barakat and the Russian film The Sun Above Me Never Sets. The former is helmed by Amy Jephta and the latter by Lyubov Borisova. Lucia Murat, the Brazilian filmmaker was awarded as the Best Director for her documentary film Ana. A Special Mention Award was presented to director Yan Han, for his Chinese film A Little Red Flower.
The awards were given to the films for their brilliant cinematography and portrayal of human emotions along with the magnificent storytelling on the screen, according to the BRICS chairperson Rahul Rawail, as quoted by UNI. He also added that the jury understood how the movie unites everyone despite hailing from different places or cultures.
