Netflix is set to reveal a closer look at Dhanush’s Suruli and the gang from the Tamil superstar’s upcoming direct-to-OTT release, Jagame Thandhiram. The trailer of the Karthik Subbaraj directorial will be released on June 1.
The movie, which also has Aishwarya Lekshmi, Joju George and James Cosmo, will release on June 11 on Netflix and is one of the most-anticipated Tamil movies to drop on the platform. Apart from Tamil, Jagame Thandhiram will also be available in Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi, according to reports.
The makers had released a teaser of the film in February this year announcing that the digital rights of the movie have been bagged by Netflix. However, with theatres in Tamil Nadu being open back then, there were speculations that the movie would first hit theatres before being available on the streaming platform. Dhanush too had supported the theatrical release.
However, the second wave of COVID-19 urged the producers, who were reportedly keen on the movie being a direct-to-OTT release, to go ahead with the Netflix deal, which apparently is a record sum for a Tamil film.
Jagame Thandhiram was initially set to hit theatres in 2020 and was shot in London, Madurai and Chennai. The movie marks the Indian film debut of Hollywood actor James Cosmo, who played Jeor Mormont in Game of Thrones.
Dhanush, meanwhile, is also working on another Netflix film – The Gray Man. The Hollywood action-thriller, which has Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling, is helmed by Avengers: Endgame directors Anthony and Joe Russo.
