Is another 'sanitised' biopic on the cards in Telugu cinema? After biopics made out of the lives of Sr NTR, Savithri, Raghupathi Venkayya Naidu, we may have a new film based on the life story of legendary Telugu director Dasari Narayana Rao soon. Veteran filmmaker Dhavala Satyam, known for his revolutionary communist films in the 80s like Erra Mallelu, Yuvatharam Kadilindi, Gudi Gantalu Mrogayi, has reportedly penned a script on Dasari's life story. The final draft of the film is ready and the casting process has already begun.
The biopic has been tentatively titled Darsakaratna and the film is expected to go on floors soon. Thadivaka Ramesh Naidu is bankrolling the film under Image Films. For the uninitiated, Dasari directed, produced and acted in over 200 films on the whole and was treated like a father figure by many who were launched by him over his four-decade tryst with cinema. Some of his popular films include Thatha Manavadu, Premabhishekam, Sivaranjani, Megha Sandesam, Osey Ramulamma.
Dasari was known to be a man of many talents and made films at a breathtaking pace across multiple languages. He wrote the dialogue for many of his films, sometimes even penning the lyrics. During his prime, he was often compared to K Balachander for the feminist films they used to helm. Erra Bus, a remake of the Tamil film Manja Pai, was the last film that Dasari had acted and directed in. Meanwhile, the team behind Darsakaratna have kept several details around the biopic under wraps as of now.
