Dheekshith Shetty: Bank of Bhagyalakshmi explores a hard-hitting truth with humour

If things had gone as per plan, Dheekshith Shetty’s latest release in Kannada, Bank of Bhagyalakshmi, should have been in theatres on November 21. But a delay in procuring censor certification, which came in only on November 20, meant that the team had to push the release ahead. The film will now be in theatres on November 27, a day ahead of the flurry of Kannada releases meant for the week. Bank of Bhagyalakshmi has been certified U/A, with Dheekshith promising several wow moments in the narrative that will enthral audiences.

Bank of Bhagyalakshmi meant to entertain; not preach

Speaking to Suddimane, the actor said that Bank of Bhagyalakshmi is, perhaps, the first Kannada film in the genre since Sunil Kumar Desai’s 1993 film Nishkarsha. “Unlike Nishkarsha, which was a very serious subject, Bank of Bhagyalakshmi sets out to tell hard-hitting facts through humour. The aim is to drop truth bombs, even while having audiences in splits,” said Dheekshith, adding that there are several ‘wow moments’ in the story.

As for his character, referenced as Tiger, based on the animal mask that he wears during the heist of the Bhagyalakshmi Cooperative Society, Dheekshith says that he’s the kind of guy who wants to turn his life around overnight. “He believes that he just needs to do one thing to change his life around drastically. That, of course, comes with its set of problems,” says the actor.

Bank of Bhagyalakshmi, according to the actor, is, at its core, a fun entertainer. “There are twists and tuns that will be exciting, but besides that, we do not claim that there are socially-relevant messages or that there is something for audiences to learn from the film. If they do, well and good, but we are not here to preach,” he adds.
