Dhoni Entertainment forays into Tamil film production

The film production company owned by cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his wife Sakshi is entering the Tamil film market.

The first Tamil movie made by Dhoni Entertainment will be a family entertainer that the company's managing director, Sakshi Singh Dhoni, developed. It will be directed by Ramesh Thamilmani, who also wrote the new-age graphic novel Atharva: The Origin.

Soon, the movie's cast and staff will be revealed. “This one will start rolling soon,” the statement added.

Atharva: The Origin is touted as India’s first three-dimensional graphic novel with a realistic visual interpretation of about 150 scenes.

Ramesh Thamilmani, a graphic novelist and former architect from Chennai, earned recognition when he unveiled the book cover for his next work. To the surprise of fans on social media, it featured MS Dhoni, as a superhero with a rugged look.

“From the moment I read the concept written by Sakshi, I knew it was special. It was fresh and had all the potential to be a fun family entertainer. I am honoured and grateful for this opportunity to develop this concept into a feature film story and directing it as well,” Thamilmani said.

Vikas Hasija, Business Head, Dhoni Entertainment said, “There is no longer a discussion between mainstream Hindi and regional cinema as a result of the pandemic; instead, the business of major films has merged into a single entity. Dhoni Entertainment is looking into multilingual productions including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada, as they are equally celebrated in the country.”

Dhoni Entertainment is in discussions with some directors and writers to develop and produce engaging content in a variety of genres, including science fiction, crime drama, comedy, suspense thriller, and more.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the former Indian World Cup-winning captain is planning to rope in some of the big names in the industry, including Vijay, Mahesh Babu, Kannada Superstar Sudeep, Malayalam actor Prithviraj, and so on.

There have been rumours that Dhoni may produce a movie starring Nayanthara. However, the cricketer spoke with Vijay about a future collaboration when they first met this year. Though sources close to Vijay ruled out such a discussion, people in CSK circles say, “The team is currently looking to establish a proper office in Chennai since they will be hearing scripts from numerous filmmakers.”
