In a surprising turn of events, Dhrubo Banerjee and Dev’s 2021 film Golondaaj makes its way to the Spanish football league, La Liga. The official Instagram handle of the league identified Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski as Golondaaj – a goal machine – for scoring the highest number of goals in the season. 

In a poster of the film Golondaaj, Dev’s photograph was replaced by Robert Lewandowski’s dhoti-kurta-clad photo like a Bangali babu. “Presenting the highest goal scorer in LaLiga so far! Lewandowski has 15 goals in the 21 matches he's been part of. Just incredible! #LaLigaIndia | #Football,” it is captioned.

The comment section was flooded with comments from India. The production house SVF commented, “We couldn't be happier than this… A moment of pride for team #Golondaaj!” Many Indian football fans enjoyed the adaptation.  

Reacting to this, the director of the film Dhrubo Banerjee said, “I am amazed to know that they follow our work and could pick something suitable for their story. I am elated but I cannot express my happiness. I am happy to see the excitement around me. Making Golondaaj was an impossible dream and this recognition is very satisfying.” 

Dhrubo’s film delves into colonial India when ‘The Father of Indian Football’ Nagendra Prasad Sarbadhikari who was the first Indian to challenge British rulers to play the sport and open a professional football club in the country. The film also features Alexx O'Nell, Anirban Bhattacharya, Ishaa Saha, Indrasish Roy, John Bhattacharya, Mirchi Agni and Srikanta Acharya.
