KD The Devil director Prem had hinted at the possibility of a Deepavali release earlier, but there’s been no official announcement to that effect, amid Kantara Chapter 1’s box office rampage

When the team of Dhruva Sarja’s KD The Devil went on a multi-city tour to showcase and promote the film’s teaser way back in July, it was widely thought that a theatrical release was also imminent. Considering that Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1 had booked the Dasara holiday window, it was thought that KD could be an early September release. Back then, Arjun Janya’s directorial debut 45 was earmarked for August 15, but was eventually pushed ahead to Christmas.
KD ruled out of the 2025 race?
Then, rumours emerged that the film’s shoot had not been completed and that director Prem was still waiting for word on actor Kiccha Sudeep’s dates for a pivotal cameo, which was eventually canned only in mid-September. Around that time, when asked about the film’s release plans, Prem had said that he’d release it sometime between Kantara Chapter 1 and Darshan’s The Devil, which is due on December 12. He’d mentioned Deepavali as a possibility. But as of October 7, there’s no official announcement about KD’s release.
This has now prompted speculation that the film is being pushed to 2026. Given Prem’s closeness to Darshan, whom he has worked with and announced another collaboration too, the filmmaker will not clash with The Devil. He will also not compete with Kiccha Sudeep during Christmas, which, more or less, rules out KD as a 2025 film.
KD The Devil has been produced by the banner that’s also backing Thalapathy Vijay’s Jananayagan and Rocking Star Yash’s Toxic, which are due in January and March, respectively. As such KD will likely look for a window thereafter, but then with IPL and exam season in April-May and then rains, the film maybe looking at a late 2026 theatrical outing after all.
