Dhurandhar is Aditya Dhar's (director of Uri: The Surgical Strike) next action thriller, and Ranveer Singh is presently shooting nonstop for the film. An espionage thriller taking place in the politically volatile and gritty 1970s and 1980s—often hailed as the golden age of India’s Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW)—the actor, who is known for his tremendous devotion to every character, has completely submerged himself in the production.
Reliable sources close to the production have confirmed to Pinkvilla that the film is moving forward quickly and that most of the shooting has already been done. The makers of Dhurandhar are aiming to call it a film wrap by July 2025, with approximately 75% of the project completed. With Dhar's six months of post-production time, the film is expected to be released in the first quarter of 2026, according to the makers. The source claimed that the film could arrive in the summer of 2026 if it is not given a release window.
With Ranveer at the helm, Dhurandhar features an outstanding ensemble cast. With him are Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Akshaye Khanna, Rakesh Bedi, and Sara Arjun, of Ponniyin Selvan and Jazbaa fame. The actors supposedly went through extensive training and look tests to convincingly mimic the era's intelligence officials. The Indian intelligence network will be represented by actors like Ranveer, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal, while Sanjay Dutt plays the character of the imposing antagonist. Rumour has it that Sara would play Ranveer's love interest.
Dhar and Ranveer have reached a major creative milestone with this partnership. Dhurandhar blends clandestine activities with high-octane drama and deeply entrenched nationalistic overtones, making it an even greater cinematic experience than Uri, which was acclaimed for its relentless, action-packed storyline.
Everything about the film's homage to the '70s and '80s is authentically sourced, from the period-appropriate costumes and cars to the period-specific technology, creating an evocative and compelling setting.
Ranveer is scheduled to star in Farhan Akhtar's Don 3 once he finishes filming Dhurandhar, another huge franchise. Production on the revival of the legendary action series is expected to begin in October 2025.
Ranveer Singh and his fans are in for a treat in 2026, what with Dhurandhar looking like a multi-layered, high-stakes historical thriller and Don 3 reviving the beloved franchise.
