Dhurandhar: CBFC confirms Ranveer Singh's film has no connection to Major Mohit Sharma ahead of release - All you need to know

Dhurandhar is one of the highly-awaited films of 2025. After the trailer and posters' release, the film faced objections from the family of Late Major Mohit Sharma, the Ashoka Chakra awardee, as it was believed that Ranveer Singh's character is based on Major Mohit Sharma. The family filed a petition to block the release of the film. Following this, the Delhi HC ordered the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to consider the objections, and the Board re-examined the film and confirmed that there is no link to Major Mohit Sharma in Dhurandhar. 

CBFC clears Dhurandhar

ANI reported that CBFC has rejected the family's objections and shared that Dhurandhar has no link to the life, service, or experiences of Late Major Mohit Sharma. The Board stated that Dhurandhar is a fictional work and has no real or biographical connection with the late officer.

It is also noted that the film contains a clear disclaimer that clarifies that all characters, events, and storylines are fictional and do not relate to any real person, living or dead.

Director Aditya Dhar earlier denied the claims while responding to a user on X who questioned whether the film is based on Major Mohit Sharma’s life.

“Hi, sir — our film Dhurandhar is not based on the life of braveheart Major Mohit Sharma AC(P) SM. This is an official clarification. I assure you, if we do make a biopic on Mohit sir in the future, we will do it with full consent and in complete consultation with the family, and in a way that truly honors his sacrifice for the nation and the legacy it has left for all of us," he wrote.

Meanwhile, the petitioners claimed that the film is being promoted as "inspired by true events" and its storyline allegedly draws inspiration from Major Sharma's life. “The legacy of a decorated martyr cannot be commercially exploited, fictionalised, distorted, or portrayed without the informed consent of his immediate family, nor without adherence to the constitutional and legal obligations relating to dignity, privacy, and reputation—rights which continue to subsist even after the death of the individual,” the petition said.
