Dhyan Sreenivasan is very clear about not over-selling his film and does not want audiences to head to theatres with high expectations, only to then be disappointed. Instead, he wants them see it as a small film, with a narrative that unfolds over one night. “There are some problems that crop up one night. How they are solved is the basic thread of Aap Kaise Ho,” said Dhyan, at the film’s last media briefing before the release. According to the trailer of Aap Kaise Ho, the narrative revolves around the bachelor’s party of Dhyan Sreenivasan’s character and what goes wrong.

Stories that span only a few hours are not very common in Malayalam cinema, says Dhyan, adding that there is a risk element associated with such story-telling, especially when there are a lot of characters, as there is no scope to define most of them. “In a story that takes place in one night, you gatecrash right into the subject – the incident around which everything revolves. In the case of Aap Kaise Ho, it is an incident that happened to a friend and since I found it interesting, it got me wondering how it would be if it got a cinematic representation,” explains the actor-writer.

Dhyan also clarified that Aap Kaise Ho is not a full-fledged comedy, but adds that it has relevant situational comedy that audiences can relate to. “Although there is a sizeable ensemble cast on board, it is still a small film and does not have the budgetary wherewithal to go all out with promotional activities. Films like ours, need time for word-of-mouth publicity to spread, and the hope is that audiences give it the chance it deserves,” he adds.
