Did a delayed reply stop AR Murugadoss working with Shah Rukh Khan? Madharaasi director clarifies

AR Murugadoss, whose recent film Sikander did not fare well at the box office and critically, is back to his home ground with Tamil film Madharaasi. The film will feature Sivakarthikeyan in an action avatar and is all set to release on September 5. In a recent conversation with a YouTube channel, the filmmaker dropped an interesting fact about how the character was initially written for Bollywood Badshah Shah Rukh Khan. AR Murugadoss says Madharaasi role was written for SRK

In conversation with Galatta Plus, AR Murugadoss was asked if Madharaasi was initially written for Shah Rukh Khan, the filmmaker said, "Long back, about 7 years, I had said the character to him and he liked it. It was just an idea and the character and not the whole script. We had met and he was also ready to do. But two weeks later I had messaged, and got a delayed answer. After that I did not communicate." AR Murugadoss then said that he also was busy with the Hindi version of Ghajini and did not follow up later. Murugadoss also said that Sivakarthikeyan will have body flexibility and developed the script of Madharaasi further.

Madharaasi OTT partner

Madharaasi’s streaming rights of the film have been bagged by Prime Video. The film is touted to be an action thriller and also stars Rukmini Vasanth, Vidyut Jammal, Biju Menon, Vikranth, Shabeer Kallarakkal, and others. The technical crew features cinematography by Sudeep Elamon, and editing by A Sreekar Prasad. After completing shooting in early 2025, the film is in the final stages of post-production.

Madharaasi marks the first time the Thuppaki director and Sivakarthikeyan are collaborating. A fun fact is that the film is coming out on September 5, exactly one year after the release of Vijay’s The GOAT, which featured the star handing over his ‘thuppaki’ to Sivakarthikeyan (in a cameo).
