Squid Game is not only popular because of Player 456 (Lee Jung-jae) or The Frontman (Lee Byung-hun), but also The Salesman. The role of the salesman was played by Gong Yoo in Squid Game and Squid Game 2. However, his character died in the second season, leaving fans heartbroken. We only saw some glimpses or flashbacks of his character in Squid Game season 3. But did Gong Yoo just hint at still being part of Squid Game? Find out below!
Gong Yoo took to his Instagram Stories and shared two pictures of Squid Game dolls. One picture shows the girl and boy doll from the jump rope game, while the other picture shows the dolls standing beside each other. Fans who want Gong Yoo to be in Squid Game in any way possible went gaga over his Instagram Stories.
Reacting to his Stories, one fan said, "After finishing work, I got a ton of stuff from Gong Yoo and management soop, and I’m so excited I’m all over the place ♡ It’s a Squid Game figure collaborated with the contemporary artist KAWS! Did Gong Yoo buy it? Was it a gift? Or perhaps it’s some kind of foreshadowing… I’m waiting for a Menko Man spin-off!!"
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Lee Byung-hun who played the Frontman in Squid Game, opened up about the possibility of the Frontman spin-off.
He said, "Director Hwang and I have been joking about a Front Man spin-off since the beginning. We both thought that the Front Man or the recruiter could be interesting for more story, because we haven’t really explored these characters in their entirety yet. Their backstory is still vague, and their character is still a little murky. To look at the Front Man with a full character study would be a very fun thing to do."
He also added that he would be willing to star in it. The character has already been built and designed, and he is very compelled by him. "Just as the fans are curious to know more about him, I am too. That’s a story I’d be very willing to tell," Byung-hun added.
The idea of a US version of Squid Game has been discussed, especially after a scene at the end of the third season where Cate Blanchett is seemingly recruiting a player in Los Angeles, hinting at a possible American iteration of the deadly games. Although creator wang Dong-hyuk has not ruled out the possibility of the show and has fueled speculation by citing the theme of late-stage capitalism in the United States, no official announcement has yet been made about a US spin-off or a fourth season.
