Did Sidharth Malhotra recommend Rashmika Mandanna's name for Mission Majnu?

Though she was quite a prominent name in the south Indian film industry, Rashmika Mandanna became an overnight loved actor across the country for her performance in the Allu Arjun starring film Pushpa that released pan India. Bollywood heartthrob Sidharth Malhotra spotted her talent. The actor shares the story behind how he brought the actress on board for the upcoming film, Mission Majnu. 

Sidharth was present along with Rashmika and one of the producers of the film Amar Butala during an interaction with the media at the launch of the song Rabba Janda. The song has been written by Shabbir Ahmed and composed by Tanishk Bagchi while the singer Jubin Nautiyal lent his voice to the track. 

Sidharth said, "When we heard the script, I just thought that let's get Rashmika on board for her first Hindi film with this story. There is an old-world charm in her and she has beautiful eyes; though in this film we have used it differently. But since the beginning, we, as in I and Amar thought that Rashmika would be perfect." 

Interestingly, the producer also admits that initially he was not a follower of Rashmika's work but when he saw her on-screen in her previous work, he realised that the actress would be the perfect fit for the film. 

Set in 1970, with the backdrop of India Pakistan conflict, the story of the film Mission Majnu revolves around an undercover RAW agent who plays a pivotal part in a certain situation between the relationship of two countries who were dealing with war. The film was announced in December 2020 and the shooting started in February 2021. 

Though the film was initially planned for its theatrical release, finally now it is releasing on Netflix on January 20, 2023. The movie is a directorial venture of Shantanu Bagchi and it is also features actors like Parmeet Sethi, Sharib Hashmi, Mir Sarwar and Kumud Mishra among others.
