Liger has turned out to be a major setback for Vijay Deverakonda just when there was great enthusiasm about his presence as a pan-Indian actor. The Arjun Reddy star spent over three years on the Puri Jagannath directorial, only for it to be dismissed by critics and audiences on the very first day. The star left no stone unturned to promote the film across several states prior to its release.

While Vijay may have unabashedly talked about his prediction for Liger to collect around Rs 200 crore, was he prepared for the film’s result well in advance? His interesting statement at a promotional event for Sita Ramam many days ago has got us thinking. In his conversation with anchor Suma, Vijay throws a hint that he may have known about the fate of Liger well in advance.

During the promotion of his 2020 release World Famous Lover, we all knew that Vijay told that it could be the last love story in his career. The statement had come as a surprise for many. He broke his own rule by signing a romance, Kushi, alongside Samantha, to be directed by Shiva Nirvana. When anchor Suma questioned him about the same, Vijay came up with an honest answer.

“We may make statements about not doing love stories, but when our action films don’t work, we have no choice but to get back to romance,” Vijay mentioned. While his reply doesn’t explicitly mention Liger, it’s evident it was the same film he was referring to. For the unversed, Vijay is yet again working with Liger filmmaker Puri Jagannadh for Jana Gana Mana.

In another interview while discussing his reason to do Kushi, the star stated, “My body took a toll with Liger and I gave it my everything to be in shape for the role. I took up Kushi because I didn’t want to do another film immediately that’ll push my body harder. Kushi doesn’t demand a lot out of me physically.” Kushi releases on December 23 across Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada.
