Singer Bappi Lahiri was one of the most loved personalities in the film industry. He is the ‘golden’ man who introduced disco to Bollywood and later, went on to become a voice anybody could instantly recognize. During his career span of 66 years, Bappi da was nominated for various awards even won many, his latest being the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Some years after Bappi da started his career, there came Disco Dancer in 1982. It was the time when he was the most recognized and was even nominated for various awards. For the uninitiated, the singer started his career in 1973 with Nanha Shikari.
Bappi Lahiri gets his first award nomination in 1982:
Surprisingly though, Bappi da was not nominated for Disco Dancer but for composing the music for another film called Armaan. The movie starred Raj Babbar, Ranjeeta Kaur and Shammi Kapoor in the lead roles. He was nominated for a Filmfare Award.
Bappi da’s first Filmfare Award won:
Three years later (in 1985), the legend won the Filmfare Award for composing the music in Amitabh Bachchan’s Sharaabi. Two songs from the film, namely Jahan Chaar Yaar and De De Pyaar De became immensely popular from the film and are a hit even today.
He was then once again nominated for composing the music for Aaj Ka Arjun, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Prada. The singer was nominated for the film in 1991.
Singer gets recognized as a judge on a reality show:
Bappi Lahiri was later recognized as a judge on a reality show. He was actually mentoring Mauli Dave on the reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. The singer won the Zee Rishtey Award in 2007 for his mentorship.
His recognition with The Dirty Picture’s Ooh La La:
As much as people recall Vidya Balan dancing to Ooh La La with Naseeruddin Shah, they associate the song very well with Bappi Lahiri’s voice. He won the Critics’ Award at Mirchi Music Awards for crooning the song. Bappi da shared the award with Vishal Dadlani, Shekhar Ravjiani, Rajat Arora and Shreya Ghoshal.
Nominated for Tamma Tamma in 2018:
Bappi Lahiri had crooned the song Tamma Tamma Again in Varun Dhawan-Alia Bhatt’s film Badrinath Ki Dulhania. The song was a remake from Sanjay Dutt-Madhuri Dixit’s film Thanedaar. He was nominated for the song with Indivar, Badshah and Tanishk Bagchi. The award was Zee Cine Award’s Viewer’s Choice Award.
The singer was also nominated for composing music for the whole film. He was co-nominated for Jury’s Choice Award with Amaal Mallik, Tanishk Bagchi and Akhil Sachdeva.
Lifetime Achievement Award in the same year:
Bappi Lahiri got the Lifetime Achievement Award in the same year. Filmfare gave him the award in 2018.
Most recently, Bappi Lahiri made his public appearance on Salman Khan-hosted show Bigg Boss 15. He had come on the show with his grandson Swastik Lahiri, to promote his grandson’s song. Bappi da was seated on a chair at all times on the show as Salman recalled his fond memories with the singer.
