Rishab Shetty is currently in Mumbai, where he is promoting his blockbuster Kannada film Kantara, which, is currently still enjoying a phenomenal run at the box office. Tomorrow, the film, which was released in Kannada only with English subtitles only and garnered record collections in north India, will cater to the Hindi speaking market, with a dubbed version. A day later, the Telugu version will release in Andhra and Telangana, where it will be distributed by veteran filmmaker Allu Aravind. During his promotional activities with Telugu channels, Rishab was asked about whether he watches and follows movies from Tollywood. “Of course, I have watched films of NTR gaaru, Balayya Babu, Chiranjeevi sir, etc., but my favourite is Jr NTR,” he quipped without batting an eyelid.

The Kannada actor-filmmaker was quick to add that he had a special soft corner for Jr NTR because the Telugu superstar’s mother hails from Kundapura, which is Rishab’s hometown as well. Asked then if his love for Jr NTR was a regional connect, Rishab laughed it off and added, “He’s such a beautiful actor; even Ram Charan garu, Mahesh Babu garu, Allu Arjun garu, for that matter. There are so many good actors.”

Rishab’s co-star Sapthami Gowda, who has been accompanying him on these promotional rounds, chipped in saying that the first ever Telugu film she has seen was Magadheera. “I was in school back then and thought it was spectacular. It was THE film that people used to talk about,” she said.

Kantara, produced by Hombale Films, will release in Tamil on October 16. The Malayalam version, which will be presented by Prithviraj Sukumaran, is expected a day later, but the team has not officially announced it yet.

A story set in a mysterious forest, Kantara is about a man vs man and a man vs nature conflict. The film, featuring music by B Ajaneesh Loknath, also stars Kishore and Achyuth Kumar in pivotal roles.
