Earlier today, Kannada actor-filmmaker Raj B Shetty revealed a new poster from his new film, Toby, which is releasing in theatres on August 25. The poster, which features a rather fierce looking Raj sporting a massive nose ring, has caught the attention of netizens. The look, which Raj will sport at a pivotal juncture in the film, is quite similar to the first poster of the film, which featured a goat with a nose ring. Interestingly, enough, the perfectionist that Raj is, he wanted this look to be as authentic as possible and was not keen on just having a press-on adornment for the duration of the shoot of that sequence.

When OTTplay met Raj recently for a quick conversation about Toby, he said, pointing at his nose, “I actually got my nose pierced to pull off this look. It was awfully painful, but it’s healing well now and you can barely make out that I had got it done.”

Toby is, interestingly, not a Raj directorial; he has written, produced and played the lead in the film, which also stars Chaithra J Achar, Samyukta Hornad and Gopalkrishna Deshpande, among others. Directed by Raj’s associate Basil AL Chalakkal, the film has music by Midhun Mukundan and cinematography by Praveen Shriyan. Toby, according to Raj, is a revenge drama, and explores how a man who has been provoked and abused continuously reacts violently to it.

The response to the new look has been phenomenal, with netizens proclaiming that Raj’s look is fierce and fear-inducing. Toby, according to Raj, is a film that used his fullest potential as a technician and artist – a project that left him Tired, exhausted and bruised, yet very happy at the end it. Toby, he had added, is his best work to date.
