Randeep Hooda recently made his directorial debut with Swatantrya Veer Savarkar. The actor shared screen space with Ankita Lokhande in the film. Recently, in an interview, Randeep opened up about a low phase of his career. Going down memory lane, the actor revealed that he was 'depressed' when his film Battle of Saragarhi was shelved. Randeep mentioned that he almost left a big project for that movie.

When Randeep Hooda almost left Extraction

In an interaction with Humans of Bombay, Randeep Hooda recalled the struggles he went through after the Battle of Saragarhi got shelved. The actor had grown a full Sikh beard for three years, prepared for Gatka but that movie didn't get completed.

"That was a very low time for me and I was very depressed. It was like life chopped in half because I had to leave that. I almost left Extraction for it," said Randeep. However, the actor later went to Gurudawara and apologised. It is because he had taken a pledge on the Guru Granth Sahib at the Golden temple that 'Sikhs have given so many sacrifices, I will not cut my kesh ill this movie comes to its conclusion'.

Randeep further revealed that he had to struggle because he had no work for three years and he had put on weight. For those who are unaware, the actor made his Bollywood debut with filmmaker Ram Gopal Verma's D, which was released in 2005.

After spending 2 decades in the acting space, Randeep donned the director's hat for Swatantrya Veer Savarkar. Besides directing the film, the actor co-wrote the movie with Utkarsh Naithani and played the titular role. This film is based on the life of Indian freedom fighter and reformer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, who is also known as Veer Savarkar.

While Hooda essayed the lead part, Ankita portrayed the character of his wife Yamuna Bai in the film. It released on March 22 and clashed with Kunal Kemmu's Madgaon Express at the box office.
