Dies Irae box office collection day 12: The latest Malayalam horror thriller, helmed by Rahul Sadasivan, has been witnessing a downward spiral over the past two days after making a solid start. Pranav Mohanlal’s film recorded only Rs 0.25 crore on day 12 at the box office, but it still was better than the other film from the horror genre running in theatres - the Hindi movie Thamma.

The A-rated movie, Dies Irae The Day of Wrath, starring Pranav Mohanlal in the lead, made only Rs 0.25 crore on its second Tuesday at the box office in India net collection as per Sacnilk. On the other hand, the Hindi horror comedy Thamma, starring Ayushmann Khurrana, has also been witnessing a downward spiral and recording just Rs 0.15 crore on Tuesday. But the Hindi film, which also stars Rashmika Mandanna, has already completed 22 days at the box office after hitting theatres as a Diwali release. But the India net collections of Thamma are far ahead of Dies Irae at Rs 131.6 crore.
The worldwide collections of Dies Irae are at Rs 71.78 crore, while Thamma stands at a good Rs 181.91 crore. But Dies Irae is mostly limited to Malayalam centres and the Gulf, while Thamma had a wider release.
Thamma’s box office collections have also been impacted by the release of Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi’s powerful legal drama Haq, which made Rs 1.25 crore on Tuesday. The overall collection of Haq is at Rs 15.75 crore during its 5-day run, as per Sacnilk. Thamma is directed by Aditya Sarpotdar and is part of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe.
Dies Irae, on the other hand, faces hardly any competition from recent Malayalam films Ithiri Neram and Innocent. But is expected to face competition from Prithviraj Sukumaran’s much-anticipated and delayed Vilayath Buddha on November 21. Actor Lukman Avaran’s Athibheekara Kaamukan releases theatres this week on November 14, along with Dulquer Salmaan’s Kaantha, a Tamil-Telugu bilingual, which is also releasing in Kerala. But whether Kaantha will make a big impact on the Kerala box office remains to be seen.
