Filmmaker Aanand L is on board for an exciting biopic on five-time world chess grandmaster Vishwanathan Anand. Bringing the life of the sports icon to the screen is an ambitious journey to the filmmaker, as well as to the audiences.

In a recent interview with PTI, the filmmaker opened up about his excitement and dreams about the project. He said he is very curious to bring the story on-screen, and it would take time as it is an ambitious film. He also added that the team is currently working on the script.

The Atrangi Re director further spilled beans about the plot and revealed they are trying to bring out the man inside the champion, rather than the sport. The biopic is co-produced by Rai’s Colour Yellow Productions and Mahaveer Jain’s Sundial Entertainment.

Atrangi Re, the romantic drama starring Akshay Kumar, Dhanush and Sara Ali Khan is the most-expected project from Rai. The movie is slated to be released on December 24 on Disney+Hotstar. It also marks Rai’s return to direction after two years of Zero, which featured Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif.

Giving more insights about his vision, Rai talked about his wish to explore all the genres. He also added how he had enjoyed and grown as a filmmaker, which was equally adventurous and gutsy.

Rai is also looking forward to the collaboration with Akshay Kumar for two more films- Raksha Bandhan and Gorkha. Based on the life of Major General Ian Cardozo, Gorkha is helmed by National-Award winning filmmaker Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan. The movie is in its scripting stage according to Rai, which will go on floors next year.

Rai will also be collaborating with Jahnvi Kapoor for the first time. The movie is reported to be a black crime comedy, under his home production Good Luck Jerry.
