The first look of Vijay Sethupathi, Shruti Haasan-starrer Laabam (in Telugu) was unveiled by director Bobby earlier today amid the presence of writer Kona Venkat, noted producers Naveen Yerneni and Y Ravi Shankar. Laabam is set to release in Telugu and Tamil simultaneously for this Vinayaka Chavithi on September 9. Incidentally, this is the first film in Vijay Sethupathi's career to have a parallel Telugu-Tamil release. Sai Dhansika, Jagapathi Babu play key roles in this drama helmed by SP Jhananathan, who had breathed his last earlier this year.
Battula Satyanarayana of Sri Gayathri Devi Films is releasing the Telugu version of Laabam across theatres. Lawyer Sriram is presenting the film that's Vijay Sethupathi's third release in Telugu in theatres in 2021 after two hits, Master and Uppena. The actor plays the role of an activist who fights for the rights of farmers. Jagapathi Babu is cast in the role of a regular antagonist but it's believed that the confrontations between Sethupathi and the former are the highlight of the film.
"Vijay Sethupathi is a pan-Indian star now who enjoys a massive following among Telugu audiences as well, given the applause he earned for his performances in Sye Raa.. and Uppena. I really like his look in the film. I hope audiences flock to theatres and watch Laabam this Vinayaka Chavithi," shared Bobby after the first look launch. Kalaiyarasan, Ramesh Thilak, Jaya Varman, Prithvi Rajan form the supporting cast of Laabam. N Kalyan Krishnan has penned the screenplay for the same. Laabam has music by D Imman and is edited by N Ganesh Kumar.
