Director Krishna Vamsi, who’s been out of action since the release of his cop drama Nakshatram, is finally getting a deserving return to Telugu cinema. His next release is Rangamarthanda, a relationship drama revolving around a veteran theatre actor. A Telugu remake of Nana Patekar’s Marathi hit, the film is produced by Kalipu Madhu, S. Venkat Reddy under Raja Shyamala Entertainments and Housefull Movies.

Rangamarthanda stars Prakash Raj Ramya Krishna, Brahmanandam, Rahul Sipligunj, Shivathmika Rajashekar, Aadarsh Balakrishna, Ali Reza in key roles. The makers of the film, which has already wrapped its post-production formalities, have begun organising special premieres for select industry insiders and media starting this week. The responses for the same has been nothing short of phenomenal.

Several filmmakers VN Aditya, Teja, Sekhar Kammula, Teja, B Gopal, Vijaya Bhaskar, N Shankar, Harish Shankar, Nandini Reddy, Deva Katta, Indraganti Mohana Krishna, Buchi Babu Sana, Shiva Nirvana, Kona Venkat, Gowtam Tinnanuri have had kind words to say about the film in the premieres. Meanwhile, reports suggest that the drama is heading for a release as early as March 22.

It is believed that leading production house Mythri Entertainments have acquired the worldwide theatrical distribution rights of the film. The banner, which distributed their ventures Waltair Veerayya and Veera Simha Reddy this Sankranthi, also released a small film Konaseema Thugs, helmed by noted choreographer Brinda. Given the niche appeal of Rangamarthanda, it’ll be interesting to see how they’ll woo audiences to theatres.

Ilaiyaraaja has scored the music for Rangamarthanda and several songs from the film have resonated with listeners. If the release date rumours are true, Rangamarthanda will lock horns with Vishwak Sen’s pan-Indian film Das Ka Dhamki on March 22. The word of mouth for both films needs to be strong, because the competition from Dasara, which hits screens on March 30, will be huge.
