Kanguva – actor Suriya’s biggest film to date in terms of scale and release – is heading to cinema halls on November 14 in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi. Directed by Siva, the mega-budget fantasy action drama has the Tamil superstar in two distinct roles – one, the title character Kanguva, a tribal warrior leader from eons ago, and another, a modern-day guy called Francis.

Why Siva wanted only Suriya for the role in Kanguva

This is Siva’s first collaboration with Suriya, which comes after 4 back-to-back films with Thala Ajith and one with Superstar Rajinikanth. Why did Siva want Suriya in this film? Speaking at the film’s Mumbai promotional leg, the filmmaker waxed eloquently, stating that it was all “in the eyes”.

Suriya, says Siva, has the most expressive eyes. “His eyes are the inspiration for this film. The eye has to convey a lot of stuff; the eyes are the most important tool of communication on the face and Suriya’s eyes can convey any kind of emotion. I have seen most of his films; he’s a great performer. But the most important thing is that he can communicate with his eyes,” said the filmmaker.

Siva adds that he has been in the film industry for many years and has been waiting for the opportunity to make an epic such as Kanguva. “It is a dream for most filmmakers to make a film like this and my dream has come true now,” he said.

Kanguva, which also stars Bobby Deol, Disha Patani, Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, among many others, has been made in 2D and 3D. The film, according to Suriya, is an epic that he and the team chose to make as an experience for the watching audience. The intention was to make a film that all can enjoy and hence the move to give it a 3D version as well.
