Director Sundar C's film Madha Gaja Raja, which was supposed to have been released for Pongal 2013, made its way to screens 12 years later for Pongal 2025. The film, starring Vishal in the lead role, ultimately became the Pongal winner when the film collected the most out of all the Tamil releases for the festive season.
However, at the success meet of Madha Gaja Raja, Sundar C expressed his concerns on how despite his films being a commercial success, he does not find appreciation. Sundar C also mentioned his name never occurs in good directors' list.
The Vishal-starrer Madha Gaja Raja became the dark horse of Pongal 2025, with the film surprising many to become the highest-grossing film among the ones released for the festive season. Directed by Sundar C, a success meet event was held to celebrate.
"Commercially films get successfully, audience will enjoy and flock to theatres, but I feel sad that there is no appreciation for me. If a list of good directors is drawn, my name will not be there," Sundar C said as he was interrupted by music composer Vijay Antony who said his Anbe Sivam is more than enough for him to be called a good director.
Sundar C said that it is of a different genre. "Cinema is a business and it determines fate of many people. A lot of people pay for tickets to forget their sorrows and enjoy films. Even though I have commercial film director tag, I thank the audience. I feel I have not yet got that position, but I go about doing my work and entertain people,” the director added.
The commercial potboiler was released in theatres on January 12 and has collected Rs 25 crore at the box office. Starring Vishal, Anjali, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, and others, Madha Gaja Raja was welcomed by the audience and received decent reviews.
It is produced by Gemini Film Circuit and features Vijay Antony’s music. Late Manobala and Manivannan play crucial roles in the film.
