Days after the instant success of the Suriya-starrer Amazon original movie Jai Bhim, the legal drama has been grabbing the limelight for possibly wrong reasons with back-to-back controversies. From legal notices to death threats, Suriya and the team are facing many allegations, including criticisms about certain scenes in the movie. Director T J Gnanavel has finally opened up about the controversies and shared a detailed statement, written in Tamil.

Referring to the calendar controversy, he revealed that the team hasn’t done it intentionally and in fact, no one noticed it before the OTT release. There has been much buzz among the audiences after a scene in the movie displayed a calendar that represents a community symbol. “If we had noticed, I would have removed it before the film’s release,” reads his statement.

He further said that he is responsible for the action, not Suriya. The actor has been facing many challenges including death threats, and the director thinks it is unfair to blame him. He also apologised to Suriya for all the chaos he has been put through.

Making the point clear, Gnanavel’s statement explains that Jai Bhim does not target any community or defame a particular person. He also extended his apologies to anyone who had felt offended. He also thanked all the team members, social activists, media and other members who stood by him during the crisis.

Actor Suriya recently received death threats for the same, after which armed forces were appointed at his house in Chennai. However, his fans were strongly supported him and he has also penned a note, thanking them recently.

Meanwhile, Jai Bhim was released earlier this month, on Amazon Prime Video. The movie also features Lijomol Jose, K Manikandan, Rajisha Vijayan and Prakash Raj in prominent roles.
