Discovery+ announces new car stunt reality show - Getaway Driver

Discovery+ is well known for its automobile based programs. Now the streamer has added a new car stunt reality show to its lineup. The program, titled Getaway Driver, will be a new take on wipeout style obstacle course using cars. Discovery has also announced that Michelle Rodriguez, better known as Letty from Fast and Furious, will be hosting the show. The stunt reality show, filled with flames, chases and crashes, will premiere this July 12 on Discovery+. It will also broadcast on the Discovery channel from June 19.

Netflix recently had a good run with its version of a car stunt reality show called Hyperdrive. Discovery expects to get a similar response to Getaway Driver. They describe the show as a real-life version of Fast and Furious and part Baby Driver and part Grand Theft Auto, all of which are good inspiration for an automobile based show.

The eight-episode series will see 24 drivers, including former drift champions, street racers and famous YouTubers compete with each other. They will try to prove their mettle behind the wheel. The show is set in an obstacle course spread over 60 acres and each driver will have to outdrive the other to reach the finish line. The rules of the competition are as simple as it gets - evade the pursuers and escape the compound to earn some cash.

The show is being produced by October Films for Discovery. Michelle Rodriguez was recently seen in the latest installment of the Fast and Furious franchise - the Fast 9, where she reprised her role of Letty Ortiz alongside Vin Diesel, Tyrese Gibson, Such Kang, John Cena, Charlize Theron and Kurt Russell.
