A lot of adult horror fans would have discovered their love for the spooky genre from R. L. Stine’s popular horror books for children, titled Goosebumps. It was announced recently that the upcoming live-action series based on the popular books has found its new home at Disney+.
According to a report in Variety, the streaming giant had picked up the series and ordered ten episodes of the same. The series has been in the works since 2020.
The upcoming series will be written and executive produced by Nick Stoller and Rob Letterman. The latter will also direct its pilot episode.
The new series will revolve around the story of five high school students who let loose malevolent supernatural forces that start to wreak havoc on their town. The group are forced to put aside their differences and band together in order to save their towns, discovering some dark secrets about their own parents in the process.
The series will not be the first time Goosebumps has gotten live-action adaptations. Two films based on Stine’s works were released in 2015 and 2018, which featured Jack Black essay the role of the author. The first film had Letterman as its director. A television series based on the books, which followed an anthology format, aired in 1996 for four seasons.
Stine had published the first book from his Goosebumps novel series, titled Welcome to Dead House, in 1992. The novels went on to become hugely popular, becoming the second-best-selling book series in history, Harry Potter. Another one of Stine’s books, a graphic novels series titled Just Beyond, had also been adapted into a show that aired on Disney+.
