There's no doubt in the fact that DJ Tillu has emerged the sole winner at the box office in Telugu cinema the previous weekend. The Friday releases, Ravi Teja's Khiladi and Harsh Kanumilli's Sehari, opened to mixed responses and didn't exactly set the ticket registers ringing, and this gave DJ Tillu, which hit theatres a day later, a major advantage to begin with. The film, backed by solid content, also was benefited largely by the terrific pre-release buzz, superb trailer and the popularity of its music.
Featuring Siddhu Jonnalagadda, Neha Shetty, Prince Cecil, DJ Tillu may not have had any big names in its lineup and it's success story serves as a great example of how to take a content-driven, small-budget film to audiences. The film has earned Rs 4 crore share on its very first day, breaking even in the US a little under two days (over $2,50,000). In the RTC Cross Roads area, Hyderabad, the film has made over Rs 16.5 lakhs in two days and is set to become the topmost grosser (in the area) for 2022 on Monday.
The team is all set to embark on a success tour in Andhra Pradesh starting today. While they'll head to Guntur and Vijayawada theatres on the first day of the tour, they will be covering several regions like Eluru, Kovvuru, Rajahmundry and Vizag on February 15 and 16 respectively. DJ Tillu is literally unstoppable in the Telangana region and the move to tour across various areas in Andhra Pradesh is likely to help its theatrical run. Siddhu, director Vimal Krishna are confirmed to be a part of the tour.
DJ Tillu revolves around its titular character, an irresponsible youngster, who has a largely non-happening career as a DJ. He meets a singer Radhika at a bar and sparks fly between the two but there's a mysterious side to her life that Tillu is not quite aware of. All hell breaks loose when Tillu is at Radhika's residence on his birthday. What happens next forms the crux of the film. aha has grabbed its post-theatrical streaming rights.
