Dobaara actress Taapsee Pannu has stated the recent trend of calling for boycott of Hindi films is a joke. While speaking at a press conference recently to promote her latest release, Dobaara, the actress stated that if boycotts and cancel culture become a daily affair, one doesn't take it seriously anymore. She added that it didn't really bother her. "I cannot talk about others in the industry, but for me and Anurag, it has become a joke," she added.

Anurag Kashyap has helmed the film Dobaara. The actress added that she has passed the stage of getting bothered by social media trends. "If the audience like, they will go watch a film. If they don't, they won't. But giving the boycott call is like undermining my audience's intelligence," said the actress.

The actress's latest mystery thriller Dobaara released on Friday and some social media users have since then been trending the hashtag to boycott the film. Though Taapsee's performance in the film has won a lot of appreciation, the film has failed to set the cash registers ringing due to low footballs in theatre, with the first day witnessing only 2 -3 per cent occupancy, according to reports.

The call for boycott of Hindi films began ahead of the release of Aamir Khan's Laal Singh Chaddha, a remake of the iconic film, Forrest Gump. Aamir had stated that he was saddened by the boycott calls and urged everyone to watch his film. Similar hashtags had once again popped up ahead of the release of Akshay Kumar's Raksha Bandhan.

Taapsee had called Dobaara one of the most gripping films of Anurag Kashyap. The mystery drama revolves around a woman who gets an opportunity to save the life of a boy who witnessed a death during a thunderstorm 25 years ago, by getting connected through the television set during a similar storm in the present. The film also stars Pavail Gulati and Rahul Bhat.
