Anurag Kashyap has joined the list of celebrities who have weighed in on the ‘boycott trend’ that seems to be plaguing Bollywood at the moment. The director’s upcoming film Dobaaraa too had found itself in the midst of calls for a boycott as well.
In an interview with Pinkvilla, the director said that the ‘boycott trend’ was not a new thing for him. Saying that he had gotten used to it, Anurag talked about how calls for boycotts mostly affected filmmakers whose works grossed beyond Rs 100 crores at the box office. The filmmaker said that his films have not grossed beyond Rs 32 crores, and added that boycotts were something that he had experience with. “I have been boycotted since the time twitter started. Ask me questions that affect me”, he said.
Dobaaraa actors Taapsee Pannu and Pavail Gulati also weighed in. Taapsee spoke of how the only time she was on the ‘trend list’ was when she was the subject of a boycott for any of the statements she made. She said that she felt out of place and left out when she saw big stars like Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar were boycotted. She joked that she wanted to be boycotted too, while Anurag added that it felt like it's been quite a while since people boycotted him.
Taapsee’s co-star Pavail, on the other hand, thought differently. He remarked that since he has not been boycotted before, he wasn't as casual about the matter as Taapsee and Anurag were. The actor said that he was yet to reach that stage where boycotts started to affect him. To this, Anurag and Taapsee responded that this was because Pavail had only one theatrical release up until now, in the form of Thappad. Dobaaraa, which will be released in theatres on August 19, would mark Pavail’s second big screen outing.
