Patrick Stewart is best recognised for playing Professor X aka Charles Xavier in the 20th Century Fox’s X-Men movie franchise. While the character died in 2017's Logan, he makes a comeback to screen with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
The actor is also reprising his role as Jean-Luc Picard in the Paramount+ series Star Trek: Picard as well. The actor recently spoke about what it was like playing Professor X once again in the new Doctor Strange with Variety: "Well, it was a day-and-a-half’s work. I was in a very different environment from the one that I had ever been in, in any of the X-Men movies. And just like Picard, I was grateful for it, because I could think refreshingly about who he was and how he related to others. Just like Star Trek: Picard, I was a little unsure at first if it was a wise thing to do. Given that Logan had been such a powerful movie and we watched him die in Hugh Jackman’s arms."
The actor in an interview with EW also teased the possibility of more reappearances as Professor X in Marvel Cinematic Universe projects, saying that the "world of comic books is much bigger than I ever imagined."
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness follows Steven Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) as they dive deeper into the multiverse he accidentally opened in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Directed by Sam Raimi, Doctor Strange 2 also stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Rachel McAdams in important roles. The movie marks Raimi's return to the superhero genre after more than a decade.
