Actress cum musical artist Brigit Forsyth died at the age of 83 in her sleep on Friday, December 1. According to her agent Mark Pemberton, she passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. Her began way back in 1971, with a Roald Dahl thriller adaptation, The Night Digger. Her big break came on the BBC hit Whatever Happened to The Likely Lads? which ran from 1973 to 1974. She also played the role of Ruth Maxtible in Doctor Who’s Evil of the Daleks.

In a statement released by her representative firm, Pemberly Associates, “Brigit had a varied and notable career in stage, screen and radio. Best known for her roles in Television as Thelma in Whatever Happened to The Likely Lads?, Francine Pratt in Playing the Field and Madge in Still Open All Hours.”

They continued, “Brigit also played multiple roles in Theatre from the West End to the National Theatres of England & Scotland, and the great reps of Leeds, Manchester and Birmingham, playing everything from the Queen in Single Spies to Kate in All My Sons.”

Brigit Forsyth’s rep agency further shared the numerous BBC Radio plays she had performed in, including a sitcom on Radio 4, titled Ed Reardon’s Week. She loved playing the cello, singing and composing music, going as far as performing with several bands, like The Fircones, Pemberton revealed.

They concluded the statement by mentioning how much “Brigit loved collaborating and helping to develop new works with actors, writers and directors, which eventually lead her to form her own cross disciplinary theatre company Word Mills Production in 2016.” The actress is survived by her three children.

One fan wrote on X, formerly Twitter, “RIP Brigit Forsyth. Thelma is my style icon. I met her once and she was lovely.”

Another penned, “RIP Brigit Forsyth. Your comedy gift to me (and many) was Thelma. #The LikelyLads”

A third fan noted, “RIP Brigit Forsyth, who played Bob’s formidable wife Thelma in the Like Lads. Along with Sybil Fawlty, one of the great rolling pins of British sitcom history.”
