Sagar Puranik’s Dollu is all set for a worthy theatrical release on August 26. The film hits the big screens on the back of a glorious national award victory and the makers, buoyed by this feat, are now keenly looking forward to the theatrical run of the film. In the lead-up to the release, team Dollu has released the first single from the film’s soundtrack.

Titled Mayanagari, the video song showcases the protagonist’s wonder and intrigue at encountering the bustling city of Bengaluru for the very first time. From the vantage point of an auto-rickshaw, we see the character trying to soak up the mad and unsettling charm of the mega city as tall buildings, crowded streets, and points of heritage rush past his vision.

The song has been composed by Ananth Kumar M. with director Sagar Puranik himself singing the song and Pradyumna Narahalli penning the lyrics. The song was released on August 16 by actor Dhananjaya. Here’s the link to the song:

Sagar Puranik had revealed in his previous interviews that Dollu is a poignant take on the effects of urbanization experienced by folk artists, with Dollu Kunitha as part of the central feature. The film follows the protagonist’s desire to remain associated with the art form, in spite of his group disbanding, and the journey he makes to the city in these pursuits forms the crux of the story.

Dollu is the maiden production effort of popular filmmaker Pavan Wadeyar and his wife Apeksha Purohit. The Googly director had revealed in a recent chat with OTTplay that he was fascinated with Sagar Puranik’s national award-winning short film Mahaan Hutatma, and that he wished to produce a full-length film that was centered on the rich tradition and legacy of Karnataka.

Dollu won the Best Kannada Feature Film award at the most recent National Film Awards.
