Dominic and the Ladies' Purse on OTT: Netizens wonder why Mammootty-led detective film failed at the box office

Malayalam superstar Mammootty’s first release of the year, Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse , was a home production, in which he collaborated with Gautham Vasudev Menon, giving the latter his first Malayalam directorial. Released in theatres on January 23, 2025, the film, though, failed to excite audiences. To add woe to the misery, the film had no takers for its digital rights for the longest time, with a deal finally being cracked only recently, for a reported Rs 13 lakh only.

Zee5 picked up the streaming rights and while it was initially reported that the film would be available in Malayalam only, dubbed versions in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi are also there. The film is also available via OTTplay Premium.

After Zee5 was announced as the streaming partner, the platform released a trailer of the film, which had sparked intrigue among audiences. Many commented that it was a far superior trailer cut and that if this version had come out during the theatrical release, the film would have fared a lot better at the box office. Several even predicted that Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse would be an OTT darling and going by the initial responses that have come on social media, it seems that’s true.
