There was a lot of buzz surrounding Malayalam superstar Mammootty’s first-ever collaboration with filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon, not as co-stars, but as actor and director. The film, Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse, is a subject that Gautham stumbled upon and thought was perfect for Mammootty, and when pitched, the latter not only agreed to act in it in no time, but also chose to make it a home production.

Released in theatres on January 23, the film, though, did not set the box office on fire, settling for an average run. There were rumours that the film was set to hit OTT this week and the confirmation has come now. Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse will drop on Amazon Prime Video on March 7. It is unclear at the moment whether the film will be available with other language options.
Also starring Gokul Suresh, Sushmitha Bhat, Shine Tom Chacko, and Meenakshi Unnikrishnan, among others, Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse has Mammootty as the title character, a former cop turned private detective. When his landlady urges him to find the owner of a ladies’ purse that she finds at a hospital, which he takes up, albeit reluctantly, the case becomes much more, involving missing people and murder too. But can Dominic get to the bottom of it given his limited resources as a private detective?

Prior to the release of the film, Gautham had said that based on the reception from audiences, the character Dominic could be developed into a franchise, which he was hopeful of doing. Given the film’s middling box office performance, though, it remains to be seen if there will be more movies featuring the detective.
Meanwhile, Mammootty, who has already had two releases this year, including the re-release of Oru Vadakan Veeragatha, is gearing up for his next Bazooka, which will be in theatres on April 10. Gautham will be seen alongside Mammootty as an actor in the Deeno Denis' debut directorial.
