The makers of the iconic romantic musical film Maine Pyar Kiya - which in a way marked the beginning of Salman Khan’s stardom, alongside debutante Bhagyashree - are poised to recreate the charm of the 1989 blockbuster hit with a new movie, titled Dono. Helmed by Rajshri Productions’ gen-next director Avnish S Barjatya, the new project is done in collaboration with Jio Studios.

Dono marks Rajshri Productions’ 75th year in the Hindi film industry. Part from Maine Pyar Kiya, the banner is known for making films like Dosti, Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se, Nadiya Ke Paar, Saaransh, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Hum Saath Saath Hain, Vivah and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo

The teaser of the upcoming movie will be released on July 25. Clocking the 59th film of the production house, Dono is produced by Kamal Kumar Barjatya, Ajit Kumar Barjatya and Jyoti Deshpande. Meanwhile, the movie’s creative production work is led by Sooraj R Barjatya, who had directed Maine Pyar Kiya. The new film’s lead pair and other details are yet to be announced.

Considered a cult favourite, Maine Pyar Kiya became 1989’s highest-grossing movie in Bollywood, and the highest-grossing Indian film of the 1980s. The movie also featured Aloknath, Rajeev Verma, Reema Lagoo, Ajit Vachani, Mohnish Bahl, Laxmikant Berde, Harish Patel, Pervin Dastur and Dilip Joshi, among others. The love story is best remembered for its soundtrack, dialogues and the chemistry between Salman and Bhagyashree. Maine Pyar Kiya was also Sooraj’s first venture as a director. Now nearly 35 years later, it’ll be interesting to see how the makers recreate the charm on screen again.

Meanwhile, after Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, Salman is now getting ready for the release of Tiger 3. Directed by Maneesh Sharma, the upcoming action thriller film also stars Katrina Kaif and Emraan Hashmi. It is YRF Spy Universe’s fifth instalment and a sequel to the 2017 film Tiger Zinda Hai.
