Doora Theera Yaana has a Nathicharami cross-over; Sruthi Hariharan reprises character

In 2019, at the 66th National Film Awards, director MansoRe’s Nathicharami won in five categories – Best Feature Film in Kannada, Best Lyrics, Best Female Playback Singer, Best Editing and a Special mention for Best Actress. The last one was for Sruthi Hariharan, who played the lead character Gowri opposite (late) Sanchari Vijay.

Sruthi is back as Gowri to dole out relationship advise

In the film, Sruthi was a young widow, Gowri, who was still coming to terms with grief, and the emotional and physical loss that entailed. In a society in which conjugal intimacy is the accepted norm, Gowri suppresses her physical desires, until she finally decides to live freely. The actress returns as Gowri in MansoRe’s upcoming release Doora Theera Yaana, which will be in theatres on July 11, 2025 and will dole out life lessons and relationship advice to the film’s lead heroine, played by Priyanka Kumar.

Doora Theera Yaana is MansoRe’s first attempt at doing a film with his sensibilities, in the format of a commercial movie – all bright and colourful. The film explores the filmmaker’s take on relationships in modern day in a road movie, as the protagonists head from Bengaluru to Goa. Vijay Krishna is paired with Priyanka and they play full-time techies and hobby musicians, as they figure out the key too understanding togetherness, among others.

In his interactions with the media, MansoRe has been clear that although Doora Theera Yaana seems like a far cry from his earlier works, the sensibilities and ethics he has held on as a filmmaker remain, he says. What has changed is the treatment of the film, in the hope that a fast-paced, engaging narrative will bring in a new set of audiences for him.

MansoRe, who has only revealed two songs from the film so far, will give audiences a sneak peek into what to expect on June 28 at 11 am, with the trailer, which is being released by Kiccha Sudeep. As a pre-cursor to the trailer, the filmmaker revealed Sruthi’s presence in the film.
