After years of making socially-relevant and award-winning films like Harivu, Nathicharami, Act 1978 and 19.20.21, Kannada filmmaker MansoRe decided to switch tracks slightly. As creatively satisfying it was for him to make ‘his kind of cinema’, the economics of it was not working out. The audience for such movies is limited and OTT platforms show little to no respect in them either. So, with his fifth film as a director, he tried a different approach – a movie that would stay true to his sensibilities as a filmmaker, but presented in a more commercially viable format, including a colourful visual landscape, songs, etc.
Doora Theera Yaana on Sun NXT on...
Released in theatres on July 11, the film, starring Vijay Krishna and Priyanka Kumar in the lead, Doora Theera Yaana, though, did not click at the box office. The dialogue heavy film about the importance of communication for a couple, has, however, managed an OTT deal and will be available to stream shortly. Doora Theera Yaana is headed to Sun NXT (also via OTTplay Premium) on September 26. The film will be available in its original Kannada version only.

Doora Theera Yaana, meanwhile, follows Akash (Vijay) and Bhumi (Priyanka), a couple who’ve been together for 5 years, and are on the verge of taking their relationship to the next level. Ahead of finalizing their engagement, the duo takes off on a trip, a journey that finally has both of them realize the strain their relationship has been under.
Can Akash and Bhumi work things out or has it gone too sour already? This is the gist of MansoRe’s film, which also stars Sharath Lohithashwa, Sudha Belwadi, Arun Sagar, Shobraj Pavoor and Sruthi Hariharan, among others, in pivotal cameos. Music is by Ronada Bakkesh and Karthik Chennoji Rao, while Shekar Chandra was responsible for the cinematography.
