It seems fans will have to wait a bit longer to relive the elegance of the English aristocracy brought to the screen by Downton Abbey. It was announced that Downton Abbey: A New Era has postponed its release date due to the uncertainties associated with the global pandemic situation.

According to a report in Variety, the film is now set to premiere in April 29 in the United Kingdom and May 20 in the United States. With its postponement, the film joins a string of upcoming movies which have also delayed its release due to the pandemic, including Mission: Impossible 7 and 8, Morbius and John Wick 4.

The upcoming film is a sequel to the 2019 film, both are which are based on the historical drama television series that aired in 2010. Set in the early 20th century, it tells the story of a wealthy British family called Crawley, chronicling how important events in history affected the life of the family and their position in society. Over the course of the show real-life events that figured in it include the sinking of the Titanic,the First World War, the Spanish influenza pandemic, the Irish War of Independence and the British general election of 1923. Both the series and the 2019 film are available to stream on Netflix.

Series creator Julian Fellowes returns as writer on Downton Abbey: A New Era, which will be directed by Simon Curtis. The upcoming film features the return of cast members such as Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael, Penelope Wilton, Allen Leech, Joanne Froggatt, Brendan Coyle, Sophie McShera, Lesley Nicol, Jim Carter, Tuppence Middleton, Imelda Staunton, Phyllis Logan, Robert James-Collier, Kevin Doyle, and Harry Hadden-Paton. They are joined by newcomers Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye, and Dominic West.
