Imtiaz Ali is foraying into the OTT space with Dr Arora that tackles the taboo topic of sex through the titular sexologist's experiences. A teaser for the SonyLIV Original series was released today.
Set in what looks like a small Northern Indian town, the brief clip shows the different clients that approach Dr Arora for their sex-related problems. There are old people, newly married couples, a concerned mother-in-law with her daughter-in-law in tow, a nervous lover and more.
The teaser ends with a sweeping shot that just focuses on the portly Dr Arora (Kumud Mishra) as he is tinkering about in his sex clinic where there are vials after vials of medicine, stacks of patient documents and a rusty old typewriter.
Dr Arora seems like a humorous yet eye-opening social comedy series. However, this is not the first time the topics of sex, sexual dysfunction, virility and fertility have been approached on screen. In 2019, Sonakshi Sinha starred in Khandaani Shafakhana, where her character Baby inherits a fertility clinic.
Besides Mishra, Dr Arora also stars Vidya Malvade, Raj Arjun, Sandeepa Dhar, Ajitesh Gupta, Gaurav Parajuli, Vivek Mushran and Pitobhash Tripathy.
According to Variety, this show is among SonyLIV's ambitious 2022 original slate which also includes Jehanabad by Sudhir Mishra, Garmi by Tigmanshu Dhulia, and Faadu by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari.
Dr Arora will stream exclusively on SonyLIV. A release date is yet to be announced.
