Tamil film Dragon, which released in February, has crossed Rs 100 crore at the box office worldwide, the makers of the film announced on social media on Sunday. The film, which stars actor-director Pradeep Ranganathan in the lead role, is directed by Ashwath Marimuthu.
Tamil cinema has been a dry season for a while now. But that has seen an end, with Pradeep Ranganathan-starrer Dragon entering the 100-crore club. The film's 10 days of gross worldwide is Rs 100 crore, the producer of the film Archana Kalpathi announced on social media on Sunday. The film is written and directed by Ashwath Marimuthu.
Pradeep Ranganathan and Ashwath Marimuthu are long-time friends, who collaborated in Dragon for the first time. The film released on February 22, and opened to positive reviews. Dragon is produced by Kalpathi S. Aghoram, Kalpathi S. Ganesh, and Kalpathi S. Suresh under AGS Entertainment. The film released in Telugu as Return of the Dragon. The drama film revolves around a college student with 48 arrears, now leading a good life with high salary and about to get married. However, a particular circumstance forces him to return college to clear the backlogs. The catch is however, he has to do it without the knowledge of his lover, boss, and family members.
So far, Dragon is the second highest grossing Tamil film this year, and comes after Ajith Kumar's Vidaamuyarchi. With the success of Dragon, it is expected to dethrone Vidaamuyarchi very soon. In fact, it will also overtake Pradeep’s earlier film Love Today which saw Rs 105 crore collection.
The film also stars actors Anupama Parameswaran, Kayadu Lohar, Myskin, Gautham Vasudev Menon, VJ Siddhu, Harshath Khan, KS Ravikumar, George Mariyan, Indhumathy Manigandan, Thenappan. Netflix has bagged the post-theatrical streaming rights of the film. Leon James has scored the music, with camera cranked by Niketh Bommireddy and Pradeep E Ragav handling the edits.
