A refreshing story of underdog

Dragon revolves around a boy who excels in education but decides to become a brat when he enters college. After 48 arrears and refusing to clear them, he is now in a good position and pay using a cheat code. But what happens when he has to come back to college to clear his backlogs? Essentially, Dragon is a story of an underdog, who makes it to life’s finest and riches, only for his past actions to come back haunting. Even as the format is a template in Tamil cinema, director Ashwath Marimuthu crafts the story in a way that feels refreshing.

Stellar performances

Pradeep Ranganathan follows up with his Love Today, and delivers a stellar performance. However, he is fantastically aided by his ensemble cast, be it an innocent father played by George Mariyan, a strict yet caring principal by Myskin, a former lover who comes to help played by Anupama Parameswaran, or Kayadu Lohar who plays the protagonist’s love interest.

Emotional storytelling

Emotional storytelling is one of the strengths of Dragon, making you resonate with the protagonist. Despite a barrage of conflicts, there is a reason why each character exists, as they get deserving arcs backed with emotional reasoning.

Pradeep Ranganathan and Ashwath Marimuthu’s synergy

Pradeep Ranganathan and Ashwath Marimuthu are long-time friends who have collaborated for the first time in Dragon. With the one liner given by Pradeep, Ashwath developed the film’s story, which checks all the boxes for a successful and commercial film. Their collaboration is one of the key aspects for Dragon to be entertaining.
