Dream Girl 2: Raaj Shaandilyaa says he is writing the script of sequel starring Ayushmann Khurrana

Reports around a sequel to Dream Girl have been circulating for quite a while now. And now it seems that Raaj Shaandilyaa, who has directed the original, has confirmed his involvement in the sequel.

According to a report in ETimes, the filmmaker revealed that he was currently writing the script for Dream Girl 2. He also added that it might ‘take a little while’ for the same to be completed. 

Ayushmann Khurrana is expected to return for the film’s sequel, with Shaandilyaa writing and directing. A Pinkvilla report had stated that the actor- director duo, along with Ekta Kapoor were ‘excited’ at the thought of spinning Dream Girl into a franchise. It was also reported that the pre-production work on the film had already been started and the makers were aiming to start production in the month of June. The sequel will also reportedly be a comedy film with a social message.

The 2019 film saw Khurrana essay the role of a cross-gender actor. The film, which can be streamed on ZEE5, went on to become one of the biggest hits in the actor’s career. The film also featured Nushrratt Bharuccha, Annu Kapoor, Manjot Singh, Vijay Raaz, Abhishek Banerjee, Raj Bhansali and Nidhi Bisht in pivotal roles. 

In a recent conversation with Millennium Post, Shaandilyaa had talked about his love for social-comedies, saying that he wanted to continue making them as a director, writer or producer. He is currently awaiting the release of Janhit Mein Jaari, which reunites him with his Dream Girl collaborator Bharuccha. Shaandilyaa has penned the script for the upcoming film.
