Considering the start and the positive reviews, the film is quite likely to be a money-spinner through its theatrical run but one would be wary of a film of the repute of Bhediya, which releases on the coming Friday, November 25.

Looks like Abhishek Pathak's Drishyam 2 would require no time to end up a major commercial success as the film scores an outstanding opening weekend. Having earned approx. Rs. 15.38 crores on the opening day alone, the Ajay Devgn - Tabu starrer looked in a great position to do something special at the box office and just as anticipated, the film has outdone many other big Hindi releases of the year with respect to the weekend #1 collections.

According to the latest trade reports, Drishyam 2 has closed the first weekend of its theatrical run at Rs. 63.9 crores (net) at the domestic box office. Leveraging the wonderful start, Days 2 and 3 yielded even better results with Rs. 21.59 crores and Rs. 27 crores respectively - by virtue of these numbers, Drishyam 2 has surpassed the opening weekend collections of films like Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Gangubai Kathiawadi, and The Kashmir Files. Should the film retain the same momentum, it has every chance of becoming one of the top 3 highest-grossing Hindi films of 2022.

To make things better, Drishyam 2 has also received highly encouraging reviews from critics and audiences alike which only amplifies the effect of the word-of-mouth publicity. Despite being the official remake of the highly popular Malayalam film of the same name, the Hindi version was appreciated for the gripping storyline and the deft change in nuance for the Hindi-speaking audience. In the same vein, actors Ajay Devgn, Tabu, and Akshaye Khanna were lauded for their respective performances.

Coming back to the box office, although Drishyam 2's collections are nowhere close to those of Brahmastra Part One: Shiva, the former still ends with the second-best weekend collections for a Hindi film this year. Ayan Mukerji's reportedly collected close to Rs. 125 crores (net) during its opening weekend and went on to gross more than Rs. 430 crores at the box office.

What's the road ahead like for Drishyam 2? Well, considering the start and the positive reviews, the film is quite likely to be a money-spinner through its theatrical run but one would be wary of a film of the repute of Bhediya, which releases on the coming Friday, November 25. Bhediya, a fantasy-action-comedy, stars Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon and has been directed by Amar Kaushik of Stree fame - while the film boasts an intriguing premise and a bankable star cast, a lot depends on how it fares on an opening day.
