Drishyam 3 postponed! Mohanlal's much-awaited thriller to now release on superstar's birthday

Drishyam 3 has been postponed! Malayalam superstar Mohanlal has announced that his much-awaited thriller, helmed by Jeethu Joseph, will not release on April 2. Instead, the third installment in the thriller franchise will now release in theatres on May 21, 2026, which is also Mohanlal’s birthday.

When is Drishyam 3 releasing

Putting an end to the speculations on Drishyam 3’s release, Mohanlal confirmed on social media that the highly anticipated thriller will now hit theatres on May 21, 2026.

Mohanlal also released a new poster from the movie while making the announcement that Georgekutty will now arrive on the superstar’s birthday. “The past never stays silent…it only waits,” he wrote in the caption.

Why was Drishyam 3 postponed

The superstar did not give any reason as to why the much-awaited film, which wrapped up shooting in December 2025, was being delayed. For the past many days, there have been online speculations on Drishyam 3’s release delay, especially after tensions in the Middle East escalated due to the US-Iran-Israel war. There was no official word on Drishyam 3, but a postponement was on the cards, given that the makers did not start promotions with less than 10 days left for release. Earlier, Kannada film Toxic, starring Yash, had pulled out from its March 19 clash with the Hindi thriller Dhurandhar 2, citing Middle East tensions.

Which are the other upcoming Malayalam movies

The next major Malayalam film to hit theatres is Nivin Pauly’s political movie Prathichaya on March 26. Vaazha 2 is another Malayalam film set to release on April 2 that was in the news for choosing the same release date as Drishyam 3. Tovino Thomas’ movie Pallichattambi, starring Kayadu Lohar, will release on April 10.

Even though Drishyam 3 is out of the April race, Mohanlal will still have a big release in the month when his film Patriot hits theatres on April 23. Megastar Mammootty leads the film, helmed by Mahesh Narayanan. 

No other major Malayalam movie has locked the May 21 release date so far. But May will also see the release of Athiradi, starring Basil Joseph, on May 14, along with Naslen's Mollywood Times. The action film Kattalan is also a May 2026 release.
