Director Jeethu Joseph is one of the most sought-after filmmaker, not just in Malayalam. The Drishyam director, who already has big projects lined up in the South as well as Bollywood, is yet to work with Mammootty, but from his recent interview, it’s clear that the much-awaited project could happen soon.
In 2017, Jeethu had confirmed to Kochi Times that the megastar had greenlit a movie with the 12th Man director. While Mammootty had heard the story and liked it, he was yet to allot the dates. In the meantime, Jeethu got busy with his Bollywood film The Body and the big-budget Mohanlal-starrer Ram, which was stalled during the pandemic in 2020. During the pandemic too, Jeethu went on to direct four movies – Drishyam 2, its Telugu remake Drushyam 2, 12th Man and Kooman, starring Asif Ali.
The project that Mammootty had agreed to come on board was a thriller that took place in a single day. The movie was supposed to have the megastar in a realistic character that people could relate to and was set in an urban milieu.
In a recent interview, Jeethu confirmed that his project with Mammootty will happen. However, the filmmaker didn’t divulge much about the film. It’s still unclear whether the upcoming film would be the same thriller or a new subject.
Meanwhile, the director will next resume work on Mohanlal’s action-thriller Ram and is set to head to the Middle East and UK to finalise its locations. The director also confirmed that once he had completed Ram, he will be directing two more Malayalam films and a Bollywood movie. While one of the Malayalam films will again have Mohanlal in the lead and will be produced by Aashirvad Cinemas, the director didn’t reveal details about the second film. Fans are already speculating that this could be the Mammootty-starrer.
