Drushyam 2 gets a hefty offer from Amazon Prime Video?

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced people to retreat to their homes again. This has altered filmmakers’ plans of grand theatrical releases in 2021 and many have switched to OTT platforms for digital releases. Director Jeethu Joseph’s Drushyam 2, the Telugu remake of Drishyam 2, could be heading for a direct-to-OTT release too.

It has been reported that Amazon Prime Video has expressed interest in acquiring the digital rights for the Venkatesh-starrer.

After the roaring success of Drishyam 2 which premiered on Amazon Prime Video, Joseph is currently filming Drushyam 2 and the movie is expected to wrap its entire shoot in a couple of weeks.

Amazon Prime Video has reportedly offered the filmmakers a huge amount to grab the digital rights of the film. Drushyam 2 is expected to attract pan-Indian audiences, owing to the popularity of the original film, and hence releasing on an OTT platform could make sense.

Sources have revealed that Drushyam 2 will probably release exclusively on an OTT platform.

Though no final announcements have been made regarding the release of this Telugu drama-thriller, fans are eagerly waiting for updates. Before a decision is made about Drushyam 2, Venkatesh and its co-producer Suresh Babu are gearing up to release Naarappa in theatres on May 14.

Several films that were due for a summer release have been pushed to a later date in India. Others have initiated negotiations with OTT platforms for direct digital releases. Movies like Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi and Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi are also rumoured to take to smaller screens in 2021.
