Dulquer Salmaan is one of the few Malayalam stars with a pan-India appeal. Speaking during a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, as part of the promotions for his new album Heeriye with Jasleen Royal, Dulquer got candid about Mollywood. He said that Malayalam films have got a good reach in the OTT space, because the industry is concentrated on generating content rather than making big commercial films.

During the interview, Dulquer spoke in Malayalam that roughly translates to, “Currently, the Malayalam industry is not producing as many big commercial films that can make an impact on the larger audience. Films that are being made here are giving more importance to the story than its scale. And that is why Malayalam movies are having much wider acceptance on OTT platforms. But I think this will change, because the industry has become capable of dreaming big.”

Responding to a fan, who expressed his desire to see Dulquer sharing screen space with Ram Charan or NT Rama Rao Jr, the actor said that he can’t groove like them. “I can’t dance like Ram Charan or Junior NTR. For an ordinary human being, it is impossible to dance like them. I think both of them are born for it,” Dulquer said.

King of Kotha, helmed by Abhilash Joshiy, is Dulquer’s much-anticipated release this year. The movie is touted as a period action drama, in which Dulquer will appear as a dreaded gangster. The teaser and a peppy dance number, Kalapakkaara - featuring Dulquer and Ritika Singh - were released earlier. Released in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Malayalam, the track has already garnered more than four million views across all the four languages.

Produced by Dulquer’s Wayfarer Films and Zee Studios, King of Kotha is reportedly made on a budget of ₹50 crore. According to reports, the movie has already bagged the highest pre-release business in Mollywood. It is slated to hit the theatres in August as an Onam release.
